How Do I Check My Brake Fluid?

It’s a good general rule to check your brake fluid every time you get an oil change, every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.

To check it, pop your hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir, which rests on top of the master brake cylinder. Consult your owner’s manual or look up the location online if needed.

The reservoir will have “minimum” and “maximum” lines, which tell you the right amount of fluid. If you find the level to be at or under the “minimum” line, you definitely need to refill the fluid as soon as possible.
