How To Keep An Unused Car Healthy

Whether you have a classic Mazda RX-7 you only drive on special occasions, or your daily car has been sidelined due to changes in your commuting schedule or other situations, Rocky Mount drivers should be aware that a neglected car will degenerate, losing not only resale value but most importantly, safety features. Do you know how to keep an unused car healthy? Find out with the service department at Medlin Mazda.

Will the Car’s Battery Die?

Lack of use in Raleigh can lead to the early death of your car battery. Most cars have multiple computer systems that operate even when the car’s off. They can drain your battery in as little as two weeks. To prevent this, start your car in a well-ventilated place once a week, and let it run for 5 – 10 minutes.

How Does Lack of Use Affect Brakes?

If your unused car is sitting outside, the elements can cause your brake rotors to rust. Taking the car for a spin around Wake Forest once or twice a week will burn off any film or early-stage rust. Pay attention to how the brakes operate. If they need to be replaced, opt for genuine Mazda parts

Will My Tires Go Flat?

Your tires will gradually lose air if they’re not being driven, so check your tire pressure weekly. If you know you won’t be driving for a while, it’s a good idea to overfill your tires a bit, around 5 – 10 psi over the recommended amount of air.

Does Gasoline Go Bad?

Your well-sealed gas tank should drastically reduce how much your gas degrades while your car is parked for an extended period of time. Fill the tank before you park, and don’t be surprised if the tank’s significantly lower next time you drive.

What About Oil?

Change the oil in your unused car twice a year. Oil breaks down over time and can damage your engine when you’re back in the driver’s seat. See us for a Mazda premium oil change
